flamingsword: “in my defense, I was left unsupervised” (GoodWitch)
Before I sleep and awaken in the part of the world I live in all the time, I want to get this down. I'll read the flist and make comments and read email tomorrow. Dude, I am so happy-tired. This will take all of my available processing capacity.

I've heard it said that being spiritual in a world that isn't designed to be spirit-friendly is like swimming long distances underwater. If the essences and meanings to your life are like the air that shimmers unsteadily a great distance above where you spend most of your time then sometimes you have to find the surface and take deep breaths. Those gasps of import and insight have to last a long way in the pressurized depths of jobness and rush-hour traffic and balancing checkbooks.

There's so much variety available in life that our culture misses out on due to this strange aversion to personal effort. Working at a job you hate for money is seen as normal and good where working at making yourself more interesting and interested in the world around you is seen as frivolous and strange.
Behold the vast need to re-prioritize.

ETA: The swimming metaphor is Dolphin Medicine from the book _Earthborn Wisdom_ by Susan Wells.
